What happens when Dua Lipa directs a car ad? Just about everything, according to Porsche.

The brand handed the keys to the pop star for its newest ad plugging the electric Porsche Macan. “What you are asking me is, how would I direct a Porsche ad?” she asks at the beginning of the spot, appearing in front of a camera crew. That question is answered with a flurry of scenes that bring her imagination to life while taking traditional car ad tropes to a ridiculous level.

First, she speeds through a city, then there’s bad weather, then she’s chased by motorcycles as dirt flies. After some in-car partying with friends, there’s a quick car wash and then it’s off to the racetrack before the spot turns black-and-white for some runaway bride drama, and then back to color for a rush to get a woman in labor to the hospital.

There’s even horses, elephants, zombies and a trip to the moon.

Dua Lipa has real-life co-directing credits on the spot along with Clément Durou of We Are From L.A., with Grabarz & Partner serving as the lead creative agency. The two-minute ad was shot in  Mexico City.

“We really wanted a Dua story that was 100% authentic, that really reflected her fantasy and imagination and that wouldn't be a typical car commercial. So we thought: let's let her write that thing herself. It cannot get more ‘Dua’ than that,” stated Ralf Heuel, chief creative officer of Grabarz & Partner.

“Nothing was too far-fetched or off the table, so they really let me run wild with it,” added Dua Lipa.

The singer has been working for Porsche since November 2023, when the brand on its website posted about her visit to the  Porsche Experience Center in Los Angeles.

Dua Lipa’s deal with Germany-based Porsche was brokered by Omnicom Media Group’s Drum, a U.K.-based content/partnerships/entertainment agency.
