Toronto's Dare worked with Penguin Books Canada to create "The Echo Project," a page-by-page digital "companion" to Khaled Hosseini's "And the Mountains Echoed," a multi-generational tale featuring multiple stories, with a narrative about the bonds of a pair of sibling tying them all together.
The site is a "digital exploration" of all 402 pages of the novel. It was created in collaboration with Mr. Hosseini, as well as television and radio personalities, producers, artists, and editors, who each chose a page from the tome that they found inspirational. Then, the creative team at Dare worked on an interactive page that represented their thought process. The resulting site is a hodge-podge of puzzles, images, videos, illustrations, audio clips and more that complement the story. For example, a Kabul fort referenced in the book is brought to life via historic photos.
