Getting ready for football is a process. ESPN goes through the entire checklist in a new spot from Arts & Letters Creative Co. ahead of the season premiere of “Monday Night Football” tonight.
The :60 is a flurry of excitement and activity, leaping from one vignette to the next—with animation layered on top and some fun visual set pieces, like a checkmark-shaped hot dog and the word CHECK made out of cheese.
“We started with a simple fan truth, that every fan anticipates and prepares for the start of the football season,” said Curtis Friends, ESPN’s senior director of sports marketing. “So for this year’s ‘Ready for Football’ campaign, we had fun along with fans building the ultimate checklist and showcasing how the football world gets ready.”
The campaign features Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell, ‘Monday Night Football’ Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, the “Manningcast” duo of Peyton and Eli Manning, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick (whose name, conveniently, sounds like “check”) and more.
“Another year of football means another year of getting NFL fans ready for another year of the NFL on ESPN,” said Andrew Kong, creative director at Arts & Letters. “What better way to do that than with an epic checklist filled with fired-up fans and check mark-shaped meats?”
“Monday Night Football” returns Monday night with the New York Jets hosting the Buffalo Bills. The season premiere comes just as cable giant Charter Communications Inc. reached an agreement with Walt Disney Co. to end a blackout of ESPN for millions of pay-TV customers.
