Frontdoor home repair app launches with ’80s-themed musical ode to a fixed toilet

Fallon spot explains how homeowners needing advice can connect with pre-qualified experts via video chat

Frontdoor, Inc., a leading provider of home service plans, is launching a first-of-its-kind app for home repair and maintenance. And it simplifies the process of fixing problems with your house to such a degree, you just might find yourself belting out an ’80s ballad in appreciation.

A 30-second spot from Fallon—campy and over-the-top, with Busby Berkeley-like flourishes toward the end—shows the app in action. Using its proprietary Streem video technology, Frontdoor connects homeowners over video chat with experts in various disciplines of house maintainence to see if they can fix the issue on the spot. If not, they call in an expert to make a house visit.

 

Millennials (those 23 to 41 years old) comprise the largest share of U.S. homebuyers at 43%. Frontdoor is seeking to meet these tech-forward consumers where they already live—on their smartphones—to make home repair more efficient.

The “Toilet” spot is just the beginning of what promises to be a major advertising effort. Fallon, which is handling brand strategy and select creative duties, rewrote another song’s lyrics for a second spot coming soon. Chemistry is leading app UX and design, website development, digital display creative, social media efforts, all paid media efforts and PR duties. 

The app itself launches in mid-April. Frontdoor will be a presenting sponsor of MLB Baseball Tonight and MLB Opening Night, as well as a presenting sponsor of the NFL Draft.
