Julie Walters, the Oscar-nominated actress and much-loved British celebrity (who U.S. audiences and young viewers might best know as Mrs. Weasley from the Harry Potter films), takes center stage in a new ad from U.K. optical retailer Vision Express, reminding viewers to take their eyesight seriously.
The ad, directed by Kevin Thomas at Thomas Thomas Films, opens on Walters reading a copy of "Paddington" wearing a pair of glasses and remarking: "I've always been inspired by what I see around me."
It goes on to recreate scenes from Walters' early life (such as her as a young girl, imitating a posh lady she sees on TV) and when she worked as a nurse, as well as including real-life footage from some of her most famous moments -- accepting a BAFTA for "Educating Rita," starring in films like "Billy Elliott," as she explains how watching people has inspired some of her most famous characters. "When you treasure everything you see, you never want to stop looking," she concludes, as a waitress approaches her in a nod to her famous "Two Soups" comedy sketch.
The ad was developed by Oliver, a sister agency to Dare which specializes in working in-house with clients. It will air both on U.K. TV from this weekend and on YouTube.
Walters has starred in a number of U.K. ads in recent years, including spots for Typhoo tea and Burberry's 2015 Christmas effort.
