Remember “Just Friends,” the 2005 PG-13 rom-com where Ryan Reynolds plays a formerly obese student who slims down as an adult and tries to woo his high school crush, played by Amy Smart?

Reynolds remembers it well. He made a “Just Friends” joke in his very first TikTok video from 2021, and now he’s reuniting with Smart for a two-minute video called “Just Friendsgiving.”

The setup is that Reynolds and Smart are checking in with their “Just Friends” characters—Chris Brander and Jamie Palamino—18 years later, to see how the relationship is going. But Smart soon begins to suspect that she’s not in an unbranded skit—but an ad for a certain Diageo-owned gin brand.

Timed to Thanksgiving Week, the video celebrates the observance of “Friendsgiving,” where friends get together rather than family for the holidays.

The spot was produced by Maximum Effort.
