Kmart has stepped up the game in funny lately, with viral sensations like "Ship My Pants," and what may have been the earliest holiday commercial of the year, featuring a creept giant gingerbread man. Now, it adds to its repertoire this totally bizarre YouTube video, featuring what very well may be the strangest mix CD ever, promoting its layaway program for the holidays.

The quirky video stars everyday folks chilling at home in mundane situations as they enjoy a new mix one of them put together. They lounge on the couch awkwardly and dance stiffly to what one woman describe as "catchy." Only, it isn't music they hear. It's "the sweet sounds of layaway" -- a woman reciting an instructional guide to Kmart's layaway plan -- in both English and Spanish.

According to a Kmart representative, the film is one of several new spots that are part of Kmart's strategy to remind consumers of the retailer's layway options. The film was created out of DraftFCB Chicago and directed by Ron Lazzeretti.
