‘Love Is Blind’ stars Jimmy and Chelsea reunite in e.l.f.’s ‘Make Up Over Makeup’ series

Presnell and Blackwell address the question lingering since their breakup: Will they get back together?

The tragic breakup and subsequent blame game between “Love Is Blind” stars Jimmy Presnell and Chelsea Blackwell is still the subject of much gossip and debate, especially since the recent Season 6 reunion.

Now, e.l.f. Cosmetics has brought them back together to get to the bottom of what happened, what their feelings are now and—the million dollar question—whether they’ll get back together. It’s all captured in the third episode of e.l.f.’s online branded series “Make Up Over Makeup” created by agency Madwell.

Insecurities were the thief of joy in the relationship between the Netflix series’ it couple, but as Presnell points out at the beginning, communication and growth—like that facilitated in e.l.f. series—help break down barriers. 

The conversation shifts when the pair interject with compliments and their favorite parts about each other. The duo also address the big question: whether they might ever get back together.

 

As in the first two installments, which reunited exes Chris Olsen and Ian Paget and friends Katie Maloney and Scheana Shay, the disarming experience of applying makeup to one another allowed for unthreatening conversation about what broke down in the relationship.

“Make Up Over Makeup” was born precisely from the insight that “having your makeup done can be an intimate experience when vulnerabilities are shared,” said Patrick O'Keefe, VP of integrated marketing communications at e.l.f. Cosmetics. “In our first two episodes, we saw how applying makeup to another person creates the perfect environment for a heart-to-heart conversation. It levels the playing field.”

Chris Sojka, chief creative officer at Madwell, previously told Ad Age that the agency’s role in creating the series is to step back and simply document honest conversation without overdramatizing it. 

“e.l.f. Cosmetics embodies the idea that makeup can serve to bring people together, and in the ‘Make Up Over Makeup’ series, we’ve put makeup to the ultimate test: to see if it can heal blemished relationships,” said Sojka. “The series demonstrates the power of makeup, as well as e.l.f. Cosmetics’ role as a bold disruptor in their category, as they set new standards for how a makeup brand can entertain and inspire.”

Since its release on Monday (March 25), the new video has already garnered more than 1.5 million views on YouTube, as well as more engagement on social media channels TikTok and Instagram, totaling 5.7 million views across platforms in the first 24 hours.

The series is directed by Sojka and produced by Madwell’s sibling agency, Starfish.

“Jimmy and I hadn’t been this close in a while,” Blackwell said of the reunion. “It was great to reconnect with him and have a meaningful conversation, while having fun with products from my favorite makeup brand.”
 
“It was great to spend time with Chelsea and to talk things through,” said Presnell echoed. “‘Make Up Over Makeup’ gave us the chance to make sure that no matter what happens in the future between us, we will always be great friends.”
