McDonald’s U.K. lights up a suburban neighborhood with a light show featuring its iconic characters in its holiday campaign from Leo Burnett U.K.

“The Gift of McDonald’s” launches with a 60-second spot that follows two parents sitting in their car after a hectic day of checking off their Christmas to-do list and buying presents for their family when they catch sight of the Golden Arches glowing in the distance. The spontaneous decision to visit McDonald's is quickly transformed into a large-scale neighborhood light show as they drive along the route to the restaurant.

Soundtracked by Benny Benassi’s “Satisfaction,” the show features ribbons and lights in the shape of McDonald’s characters, including the Hamburglar and Grimace. The spot positions McDonald’s as a reward to gift yourself and each other after the holiday chaos.

"Christmas is a magical time, but it can also feel like a whirlwind,” said Michelle Graham-Clare, chief marketing officer and senior VP at McDonald's. “With long gift lists, crowded shops and endless wrapping, it’s easy to forget to take a moment for yourself or with your loved ones. That’s why we’re reminding everyone that the perfect festive break is always just around the corner.”

The spot was directed by Nicolai Fuglsig. In addition to the film, McDonald’s U.K. will launch a nationwide McDonald’s Gift Drop that invites the public to search for “hidden” gift tags across the U.K. Once found, the tags will give people the chance to unlock daily offers, and win free food and exclusive merchandise on the McDonald’s App.
