Isla’s new spots feature people who don’t know what to expect when they’re invitated to watch Netflix with someone else

The phrase “Netflix and chill” has been around for almost a decade, and the streamer leans into it in a new campaign for Argentina, Chile and Uruguay.

Three spots from Isla Buenos Aires show people getting text messages from people inviting them to come over and watch Netflix. The characters are immediately confused, though. Are they talking about watching Netflix, or watching Netflix?

Their internal debates are amusing, if a little over-the-top.


Tomás Quartino of Landia directed the campaign, which also includes outdoor ads and content on TikTok, Instagram and Whatsapp. There is also a dedicated website at vernetflixovernetflix.com.

Mariano Gamba and Rodrigo Greco, executive creative directors at Gamba, said the first thing they wanted to do with the campaign was “get as far away as we could from the advertising correctness that bores us so much.”

They added: “We simply brought to life the existential doubt that people often have when someone invites them to watch Netflix: Are they inviting them to watch Netflix, or are they inviting them to ‘watch Netflix’? The difference between one and the other is abysmal for everyone’s expectations of the evening. The good news is that at the end of the day, it’s all on Netflix.”
