A psychic got horses in Kentucky to say what they like about the place for tourism ads

VisitLEX and agency Cornett have done lots of wacky tourism marketing together over the years. But this latest stunt is really out there: They got a psychic medium to communicate with horses in the Lexington area about why they love living there—then translated the animals’ thoughts into ads. Carrie Kenady, a Lexingtonian who, according to her website, “regularly communicates with all species, including animals who have crossed over,” visited Mill Ridge Farm and communicated with the thoroughbreds there. She emerged with enough of a gist of how they were feeling that Cornett was able to produce some testimonial-style ads. Even the barn cat got in on the action. “First horse I talked to, from Canada, mentioned how much she loved the bluegrass because it tasted sweeter,” Kenady says in the project video. “She basically just showed me in my mind that she was eating it faster because she liked it more.” It’s tempting to think of this as one big gag, but it’s not—at least not to Kenady. “I use the same muscle every time I tune into an animal or a person. It’s all telepathic communication,” said Kenady. “Animals show me symbols, words, and visual images. It’s really just an exchange of energy.” She adds: “It's completely normal to be skeptical. That's a normal human behavior. I just tell people don't knock it until you try it.” “As Lexington prepares to welcome springtime travelers to our beautiful bluegrass landscape, we couldn’t think of a better way to entice future visitors to the Horse Capital of the World than with reviews straight from the horses’ mouths,” said VisitLEX president Mary Quinn Ramer. The new campaign follows a stunt at the end of 2021 that featured a play on NFTs—Non Fungible Thoroughbreds.
