Mexico Promotes Tourism by Making it Rain Tequila in Germany
'Tequila Cloud' Let Visitors Fill Their Glasses at a Contemporary Art Space in Berlin
Editor's Pick
To promote vacations in Mexico to sun-starved Germans, Mexico's Tourism Board literally made it rain tequila.
Agency Lapiz created a "tequila cloud" at a contemporary art space in Berlin, during the wet German winter. Visitors to the exhibit filled their glasses with tequila under the cloud (we bet that was some party.)
Lapiz and production company Two Bit Circus used ultrasonic humidifiers to vibrate tequila at the right high frequency to turn it into visible mist, which was then condensed into liquid form that dripped as raindrops. A computer controlled the cloud, programming it to rain whenever it rained in Berlin, which was pretty frequent at the time of the exhibit.
The idea sure makes for a fun stunt, but we can imagine a tequila brand or even a bar co-opting it so others around the world can enjoy the experience. We're also wondering, if you breathe in the cloud, do you get a buzz?
