Celebrity voices and gorgeously crafted animation make a new ad for the U.K's TransPennine Express train company stand out.
Directed by Blinkink's Joseph Mann for Engine, the ad sees a cast of animated puppets-- including a bucket, a paintbrush, a laptop and a family of sock puppets -- traveling on a train to Manchester. It's voiced (sparingly it has to be said) by well-known British celebrities such as Julie Walters, Jane Horrocks ("Absolutely Fabulous") and Ashley Jensen ("Ugly Betty") with some adorable moments, such as the baby sock puppet crying and spitting out his pacifier.
The spot was shot over four days on a real train with over 20 human-sized puppets. Mann comments: "From the very start I wanted to make each moment in the story feel as relatable and as human as possible. The objects are all simple everyday things that work in pairs. Bucket and spade, paint brush and paint pot etc. So the challenge I faced was turning the everyday mundane into a world of unique and characterful individuals. We used things like broom bristles for paint bristles and most of the characters were wrapped in tactile fabrics to give them a charming hand-made feel."
