OK Go, the band that pioneered groundbreaking technology in music videos like Needing/Getting and The Writing's On the Wall, is back with another visual treat, this time filmed in zero gravity.

OK Go singer Damian Kulash, Jr. co-directed the new video, Upside Down & Inside Out, with his sister and frequent collaborator, Trish Sie and it was made in partnership with Russia's S7 airlines and its Russian agency Tutkovbudkov.

In it, band members float, fly and do mid-air acrobatics in a plane cabin along with S7 air hostesses Tatyana Martynova and Anastasia Burdina, who are trained aerialist acrobats, and among other things, a load of colorful bouncy balls, The video was shot in a plane that flies parabolic maneuvers to provide brief periods of weightlessness. It was made at he Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center for ROSCOSMOS (the Russian equivalent of NASA), where the team spent three weeks playing, testing, and filming. In total, they flew 21 flights, with 15 zero gravity parabolas per flight, for a total of about two hours and fifteen minutes in weightlessness.

"Because we wanted the video to be a single, uninterrupted routine, we shot continuously over the course of eight consecutive weightless periods, which took about 45 minutes, total," explained Trish Sie in a statement. "We paused the action, and the music, during the non-weightless periods, and then cut out these sections and smoothed over each transition with a morph."
