It’s been 25 years since “Friends,” that quintessentially ‘90s sitcom, debuted, starring a cast of young New Yorkers with implausibly large apartments. To celebrate the silver anniversary of one of the most popular TV shows of all time, Warner Bros. Television created the “Friends Pop-Up Experience.” Located in a studio in Soho (quite a distance from Central Perk), the space is both a museum and an homage to the show and its characters. Exhibits explain behind-the-scenes details of the show and memorialize famous quotes and scenes. Display cases hold memorabilia, like the infamous leather pants or a collection of Rachel’s hairstyles. Interactive exhibits let fans recreate the opening credits (complete with umbrellas) and take selfies or relax a recreation of Central Perk. Two black La-Z-boy recliners mimic Chandler and Joey’s apartment nearby. In addition to the pop-up, “Friends” executive producers David Crane, Marta Kauffman and Kevin Bright will discuss the series at the Tribeca TV Festival this month. The famous couch itself is going on a world tour, including to the top of the Empire State Building, the Grand Canyon, Tower Bridge in London and Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. A new app from Warner Bros. TV includes Instagram filters that let users perch Marcel the monkey on their shoulders or try on Joey’s blue lipstick. It also comes with a trivia game and a recipe book featuring food from the show.
