All-Electric Cadillac LYRIQ ScissorHandsFree Cadillac promoted its hands-free driving technology in its 2021 Super Bowl commercial, “ScissorHandsFree.” Starring Winona Ryder, reprising her role from the 1990 film “Edward Scissorhands,” and Timothee Chalamet as her teenage son Edgar, the spot riffs off the classic movie to promote Cadillac’s newest self-driving models.Like his father, Edgar Scissorhands has scissors for hands. He can’t play catch, make a sandwich or walk past a fence without getting stuck. But when Edgar’s mom catches him successfully playing a virtual reality driving game, inspiration strikes. She gets Edgar a brand new Cadillac equipped with self-driving technology, so that he doesn’t even have to touch the steering wheel with his blades. The minute-long spot has Hollywood-level production and star power, bolstered by the 90’s film reference and the fantastical casting of heartthrob Chalamet as the son of Ryder and an absentee Johnny Depp. This was one of two ads parent company General Motors ran in the 2021 Super Bowl. The other — a corporate spot — starred Will Ferrell and addressed electric vehicle adoption.Brand:CadillacAgency:Leo BurnettQuarter Aired:Q4Super Bowl:LVYear:2021
