Dexcom, which makes a glucose monitoring system for diabetes management, aired its first Super Bowl ad during the 2021 game.
The 30-second spot starred Nick Jonas, a Type 1 diabetic, who marvels over recent technological innovations — including drones and self-driving cars — before asking, incredulously, “People with diabetes are still sticking their fingers?”
Later on, the singer and actor pulls out his smartphone to show off Dexcom’s new app aimed as a way for diabetics to avoid daily finger pricks.
“Finally technology that makes it easier to manage our diabetes,” says Jonas, an advocate for diabetics who has spoken candidly about his own diagnosis.
