E-Trade returned to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2018 with a spot that called on viewers to get into financial shape. The commercial shows a young boy trying to bulk up his muscles by trying a variety of exercise regimens, all backed by “You’re the Best,” Joe Esposito’s song from the soundtrack of 1984’s “The Karate Kid.”
E-Trade played on the sense of nostalgia to encourage financial planning.
It was a different approach than some of E-Trade’ past efforts, most notably the iconic E-Trade babies that were at the center of its 2012 and 2013 Big Game ads. In 2018, E-Trade aired a Super Bowl spot that highlighted the perils of not saving for retirement. Stil, while the latest Super Bowl spot diverged from past plots, it stuck with the brand’s familiar “Don’t get mad, get E-Trade” tagline.
