For it’s Super Bowl debut, the Swedish oat milk company Oatly recycled an ad that first ran in 2014 in Sweden -- where it was quickly banned.
The spot showed Oatly CEO Toni Petersson singing a song he wrote as he stands in an oat field in Sweden playing an electric piano.
“It’s like milk, but made for humans,” Petersson says of the milk alternative.
The spot was taken off the air in Sweden after Oatly was sued by the Swedish dairy lobby, which argued that the brand disparaged milk from a cow.
But seven years later, Oatly landed the spot on advertising’s biggest night of the year, following an expansion in the U.S.
The company went public in May 2021.
