In Planters’ first Super Bowl ad since 2008, Mr. Peanut and the ubiquitous Nutmobile appear to save Alex Rodriguez from an impending “nut-mergency”: a disappointing snack.
With a bit of reckless driving to the tune of Motley Crue’s “Kickstart My Heart,” Mr. Peanut slides in just in time to replace a bag of kale chips with a can of Planters mixed nuts. Along the way, the monocle-wearing mascot speeds past Charlie Sheen, who remarks, “And people think I’m nuts.”
The 30-second spot from VaynerMedia aired in the second quarter, with an extended 45-second version released as a teaser the Tuesday before the game.
As part of Planters’ Super Bowl promotion, the Kraft Heinz brand said it would give away prizes via the @MrPeanut Twitter handle on game day, including signed A-Rod memorabilia, a solid gold peanut and the chance to have Mr. Peanut as a personal chauffeur in the Nutmobile for a week.
