In T-Mobile’s seventh consecutive Super Bowl ad, “Black-ish” star Anthony Anderson and his real-life mother Doris Hancox test the reliability of the carrier’s 5G network.
Showing Hancox successfully using a 5G data connection everywhere from an aquarium to a nightclub, the 60-second commercial from Panay Films tied in with a Super Bowl promotion where T-Mobile gave away a free Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ phone every five minutes during the game.
Last year, the wireless carrier’s Super Bowl ad also relied on freebies, hyping the company’s T-Mobile Tuesdays program that gives customers perks including free Lyft rides and free Taco Bell items.
Verizon was the only competing carrier to air a Super Bowl ad this year, with other major players AT&T and Sprint (which was recently acquired by the self-styled “un-carrier”) sitting out.
