The executive creative directors who led Goodby Silverstein & Partners' New York office, David Suarez and Danny Gonzalez, are departing the agency, Ad Age has learned.
The creative duo was let go as part of a restructuring within the agency, according to multiple people close to the situation. Gonzalez and Suarez will be with the agency until the end of the month.
The restructuring was in part due to clients decreasing budgets, according to one of those people. The office is believed to have around 30 employees.
Overall, about 3% of the agency's employees across all offices were affected by the layoffs, according to a person close to the situation. The shop had 366 employees last year, according to Ad Age data.
“We’re really proud of what we were able to build here in New York and thankful for the opportunity,” Suarez and Gonzalez said in an email. “We can’t say enough about the talented, generous, hard-working folks out here that made coming into the office so much fun.”
They declined further comment. San Francisco-based Goodby Silverstein & Partners declined to comment.
The two creatives had been with the Omnicom agency since 2014. They helped reopen Goodby’s New York office in 2020, after it initially closed in 2015. The agency handles several clients on the East Coast, such as Liberty Mutual and Comcast.
Suarez and Gonzalez had been part of Liberty Mutual’s “Only Pay for What You Need” ads in 2018 that have brought more quirkiness and absurdity to the insurance brand’s marketing. Suarez and Gonzalez were also part of the team that helped launch the debut of Liberty Mutual's recurring characters Limu Emu and Doug in 2019. Since then, the duo has led several notable campaigns for the insurance brand, including its latest “Something to Help you Remember” campaign.
During their time at the agency, Suarez and Gonzalez also worked on accounts such as Credit Karma, StubHub, NFL Media and the Golden State Warriors. Prior to Goodby, the team spent more than two years at Barton F. Graf 9000 in New York, where they worked across all brands including Little Caesars and Ragú.
