R/GA’s global chief strategy officer to depart

R/GA Global Chief Strategy Officer Tom Morton is departing the Interpublic Group of Cos. agency. An R/GA spokesperson said there are no immediate plans to replace Morton, who will exit “sometime in 2024,” the agency said. Morton could not be reached for comment. See our Year in Review stories here “Eight years since [R/GA Founder] Bob Greenberg gave me the opportunity to be part of his unique company, my time at R/GA is coming to a close,” Morton said in a statement provided by R/GA. “I’ll be seeing the company through the new year. We have outstanding strategic leads across the network, and a culture of radical collaboration between strategic disciplines that helps brands to innovate and create more valuable experiences.” Morton said he has “loved working with” Interim Global CEO Robin Forbes and Global Chief Creative Officer Tiffany Rolfe, “from day one, and that love and gratitude continues. Forward, always.” “We are enormously grateful for the contributions Tom has made to R/GA during his tenure here,” Forbes said in a statement. “We wish him the best of luck with his next opportunity.” Morton has been with R/GA since 2016, previously leading U.S. strategy before gaining the global remit in 2021. Before R/GA, he led strategy for agencies including co:collective, Goodby Silverstein & Partners and Havas, among others. R/GA has been struggling to turn itself around after undergoing layoffs, client losses and a host of leadership changes amid a shaky economy. Morton joins a string of executive departures at R/GA within the last year, including Global CEO Sean Lyons, who left earlier this year for Accenture Song. Shannon Washington, U.S. chief creative officer of R/GA’s Connected Communications practice, will be departing the agency for IPG’s Gotham, Ad Age previously reported. Affected by a downturn in the tech sector, R/GA underwent several rounds of layoffs this year and last. It’s also faced declining budgets in the last two years from Mattress Firm, Verizon, Samsung, Nike, Ally and Siemens.
