AKQA Group CEO Ajaz Ahmed, who founded the agency in 1994 and has been its chief executive for 30 years, has resigned, parent company WPP announced on Thursday.
A successor has not been named, WPP said in a statement. In the interim, AKQA Group will be led by the existing leadership team at AKQA and sister agency Grey, with “WPP Chief Technology Officer Stephan Pretorius overseeing the business in the role of interim chair,” according to the statement. WPP acquired AKQA in 2012.
It’s unclear what’s next for Ahmed. He has been focused on charitable work and sits on boards including the Elton John AIDS Foundation, Virgin Unite (founded by Richard Branson) and Mission 44 (founded by Lewis Hamilton).
