That’s because the Roseville, Calif.-based digital media shop already has a remote work culture. More than 70% of the agency’s 25 employees work remotely, some of them scattered across the country. Closed Loop is organized into small studios with a studio lead who mentors about five employees each. “I try not to overcomplicate things, and over-engineer systems or processes as it relates to people management,” says founder and CEO Lance Loveday. When employees are going through a rough patch, “why in the world wouldn’t you find a way to offload them, and reduce the pressure on them, so that they can get back into balance, and be able to return to being a star performer for you.” The shop also has a strong culture of giving. It regularly contributes to charities and gives every employee two annual volunteer days, as well as $100 to donate to a non-profit of their choosing.
