Just in time for Election Day, a moment of equal-opportunity, bipartisan hilarity, courtesy of "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert." Given that Conan O'Brien's TBS show "Conan" is on hiatus, Colbert explains at the start of the segment above, O'Brien was happy to loan one of his correspondents, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, to Colbert.
Triumph (Robert Smigel) was certainly put to great and productive use, given that he was somehow able to score interviews with Senator Ted Cruz and his challenger, Congressman Beto O'Rourke, on the campaign trail in Texas.
Triumph also spends some time in the segment harassing supporters of both candidates, but really rises to the occasion in his face-to-face encounters with O'Rourke and Cruz, both of whom seem remarkably relaxed about interacting with a famously antangonistic canine puppet.
The best moment of all arguably comes near the end with a final exchange between Cruz and Triumph. "Just remember," Cruz tells Triumph, "it wasn't the Republicans, it was the Democrats that took you into the vet to get fixed." Triumph's comeback: "Hey, I support spaying! I support spaying and neutering, just like Trump did to you!" (Spoiler: Cruz laughs awkwardly.)
