“Oppenheimer” had an unexpectedly nuclear impact at the box office. As Variety observed, the hit is “reshaping Hollywood’s idea of what constitutes blockbuster entertainment” even though it is a three-hour drama absent superheroes that “mostly unfolds in laboratories and congressional hearings.”
