Park Pictures director Lance Acord followed his stellar 2011 turn on Volkswagen's "The Force" with another Super Bowl knockout that trained the camera on one feisty canine in "The Dog Strikes Back." But his biggest 2012 hit, arguably, came during the Olympics, with the clutter-busting "Jogger," for Nike, Creativity's favorite spot of the year. Created out of Wieden+Kennedy, Portland, the spot depicted the tenacity of a young, overweight boy, steadily making his way down a quiet dirt road. It was just one fine turn amongst the many others of Nike's "Find Your Greatness" campaign, which Acord directed with Park newcomer Seb Edwards.
Overall, it was a pretty athletic year for the company. Newcomer Emmanuel Lubezki added to the company's stable of DP/Director talent and directed his first spot, the gorgeous "Power Through" Olympics-themed spot for Powerade, which poetically captured athletes, mid-action, at the top of their game; the Glue Society put on its best moves fora thrilling FIFA 13 spot, out of Wieden + Kennedy Amsterdam, which took viewers on a wild spin through the game's clubhouse, getting fans up closer to pros like Joe Hart, Lionel Messi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Michael Fitzmaurice directed a seasonal charmer for the NBA, in which basketball pros' dribbles gradually came together to the sound of a classic Christmas tune.
Joachim Back reminded us of the ugly duckling that Audi used to be in a vintage black and white spot out of BBH London and relayed the uncomfortable experience of a 7th wheel named Josh, for Land Rover and Y&R New York. Performance pro Allison Maclean reunited with disgruntled Greek grandchildren on another round of Athenos work, out of Droga5 and brought voice of reason Suzie Orman into the world of Acura. Jake Schreier, in the meantime, continued the promotional tour for his Sundance hit "Robot & Frank," which saw wide release in 2012.
