Outstanding commercials included the politically provocative "Equality" for Nike, directed by Melina Matsoukas. Voiced by Michael B. Jordan and speaking out pointedly for equality, the ad ran at the 2017 Grammys drawing parallels between equality in sport and wider equality.
Meanwhile Matsoukas herself was an award-winner at the Grammys, taking the Best Music Video award for Beyoncé's "Formation," which won plaudits far and wide.
Other notable work included Paul Hunter's Fourth of July spot for Ancestry.com, which depicted a diverse bunch of descendants of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
And Max Malkin helmed a surprisingly touching film for Apple Watch that starred real Watch owners from around the world reading their own letters to the company and saying thank you for how the product has enhanced their lives.
