The metaverse is back this year. Although it has been somewhat overshadowed by AI of late, brands are still active in virtual gaming worlds and immersive commerce, both of which are characteristic of the metaverse. The NFL recently hosted a Super Bowl event inside open-world game Roblox. Meanwhile, Meta keeps working toward a mixed-reality future, one in which lightweight devices such as Meta Ray-Ban glasses assist brands’ marketing efforts. Indeed, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently called this “a pivotal year for the metaverse,” in a fourth-quarter earnings call this month. Zuckerberg promised to deliver on “investments that we've been working on that will make the metaverse more visually stunning and inspiring.”
