Hims: “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” ad drop Agency: Maximum Effort Just when we were starting to think that Ryan Reynolds’ marketing ideas were getting a bit tired with their predictably irreverent approach, this happened. The actor and entrepreneur appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” to debut a new erectile dysfunction ad his agency Maximum Effort created for telehealth brand Hims. He took full advantage of the fact that the show’s substitute host is his business partner Rob McElhenney (“Always Sunny in Philadelphia”), with whom he owns Welsh soccer club Wrexham AFC. McElhenney’s wife, Caitlin Olson, stars in the new ad alongside McElhenney's doppelgänger. someone who looks really familiar. Currys: "Cash for Trash" billboard Agency: AMV BBDO Recycling (and billboards) get really fun in this outdoor and social campaign from U.K. electronics retailer Curry’s, courtesy of AMV BBDO. To promote the store’s “cash for trash” program that gives customers cash back for used tech products, the brand erected this billboard covered with broken devices such as keyboards, hair dryers and phones. Passersby were invited to pull the devices off and take them straight to a Currys, where they would get coupons for discounts on their next purchase. 3. Liquid Death: Official NFL Hydration Assistant Agency: In-House Speaking of unconventional marketers, Liquid Death once again makes the Top 5 with its first-ever big money sponsorship. The canned water brand announced a $100K deal—its largest to date—with an official “NFL Hydration Assistant.” After a competition held earlier this year, the brand selected Travis Poulson, a trainer for the Indianapolis Colts, for the inaugural gig. Viola: Breathe In, Vibe Out Agency: Basewood We don’t see a ton of great ads for cannabis brands, much less ones that make us laugh out loud, but this film from Viola brands did just that. The spot captures a day-in-the-life of an everyday neighborhood—a woman worries about her dying plant, a man struggles with his lawn mower and another lady gets ready for her yoga session. Things then take a weird turn when we see how a hit of Viola changes their perspectives. The point is to illustrate how the brand’s “Viola Vibes” system of categorizing various strains helps users choose the right one for their needs. 1. Lego: Fly Away Isles Agency: Amplify Experiences can be the ultimate expression of a brand’s platform. Take these two ideas that debuted last week. Lego’s ongoing “Rebuild the World” campaign has highlighted the power of kids’ imagination—and children’s ideas inspired the brand’s new “Fly Away Isles” playground in New York City. Corona: Corona Island Meanwhile, AB InBev’s Corona has put the environment at the heart of its marketing and finally unveiled Corona Island, its branded island and eco-tourism resort off the coast of Colombia “centered around sustainability.”
