Welcome to our weekly rundown of the Top 5 most innovative brand ideas you need to know about right now.
5. Burger King: Blind Protagonist, David, Sao Paulo
This new work from David is Burger King’s latest move to promote inclusivity. The spot features a visually impaired protagonist enjoying some of BK offerings while giving his review of the meal. It’s the first ad on Brazilian broadcast TV to feature an audio description in the main audio, versus just as an optional add-on.
4. Community Films: Commercials | Directors: Pam Thomas; Jean
This series of comedic shorts from Community Films and directors Pam Thomas and collective Jean do for commercials production what “The Office” did for 9-to-5 life. Anyone who’s been on a commercial set will surely laugh—or possibly cry—over how the scenarios really nail the production life.
3. Don’t Panic: “Stick It to the Man"
This out-of-home campaign from Don’t Panic London is an opportunity for Londoners to vent their frustrations about newly elected British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. As he tours around the country pitching the benefits of a No Deal Brexit, the campaign invites people to stick their used chewing gum on posters of his face. While the idea is politically motivated, it also serves an environmental purpose: to help solve the problem of chewing gum littering, which in 2017 cost the city councils about 60 million pounds to clean up.
2. Mastercard: Priceless International Culinary Collective, Spring
Mastercard and creative agency Spring brought the best of culinary experiences from around the world to New York City. The experiential installation brought to life, in immaculate detail, the rare experiences of dining at restaurants like Zanzibar’s The Rock, and Teruzushi, a third-generation sushi restaurant in Japan known for its theatrical serving style. The restaurant’s chef, Takayoshi Watanabe, closed up his own shop and brought most of his team to New York for the experience.
1. Small Agency Awards: Chase Your Smallness, BSSP
Ad Age had its Small Agency Awards this week, and during the hand-off of the Small Agency of the Year prize, outgoing winner BSSP dropped this video to celebrate this year’s honoree, JohnxHannes. The film spoofed Nike’s famous “Jogger” ad, but instead of being a tribute to unlikely athletic heroes, it highlighted the heroic struggles of small shops.
