Watch BetMGM exclude Tom Brady in Super Bowl ad

BetMGM’s Super Bowl ad welcomes everybody who loves sports betting—except Tom Brady. An extended 60-second cut of the ad released Saturday features the NFL legend, Vince Vaughn, Wayne Gretzky and a cast of fans, some with loose affiliations to Brady, including a woman playing Brady’s babysitter. They are all welcome to bet at BetMGM, Vaughn says—but Tom Brady is not. (Brady tries to get around the exclusion by playing a fictitious “seven-time champion” of pool called Tim Birdie.) “The truth is, you’ve won too much, Tommy,” Vaughn says. “Let others have their turn.” Highdive handled the ad, which will run as a 30-second version in the Feb. 11 game on CBS. The spot is in the vein of the teaser released this month which showed Vaugn casually pushing Brady out of the frame. Mark Gross, chief creative officer at Highdive, said the strategy was to position BetMGM as an egalitarian sportsbook, reaching out to different kinds of bettors as opposed to competitors that “focus on that frat-boy bettor.” Sportsbooks are looking to cash in on growing interest in sports betting and on states that approve the activity. The Super Bowl’s setting in Las Vegas is also driving excitement. Market leader FanDuel has also confirmed it would advertise in the Big Game this year. Sports gambling is currently live and legal in 38 states and Washington, D.C., according to the American Gambling Association.
