Santa crash lands into an outback Christmas in Aldi Australia's holiday spot
Ad by BMF blends pathos and comedy, Aussie-style
Editor's Pick
Santa crash lands his sleigh in the middle of the Australian outback in a holiday commercial by Aldi Australia.
The ad, by Sydney agency BMF, sees a dishevelled Santa (who's less here of the the "jolly old elf" we often see and more of a elderly homeless guy who's fallen on hard times) taken in the outback community after his accident. While his sleigh takes off for repair, he's inaugurated into outback life, helping out with fence-building and sheep shearing and learning how to use the "dunny." Eventually, his sleigh is mended and, after being treated with a delicious Christmas feast courtesy of Aldi, he's on his way into the sky with the help of some jump leads.
The beautifully-shot spot blends pathos and humor perfectly, Australian-style, to make an unusual and interesting addition to this year's stable of festive ads.
