Nike pays tribute both to F.C. Barcelona soccer club and its home city in a film celebrating its 20th anniversary as a sponsor.
A film by Wieden & Kennedy Amsterdam, directed by the cinematographer Wally Pfister ("Inception,") features some of the legendary names in the club's history, including current players Gerard Piqué, Sergio Busquets, Sergi Roberto, Ousmane Dembélé, Samuel Umtiti, Denis Suárez and Paulinho and Alexia Putellas as well as greats Carles Puyol, Ronaldinho, Pep Guardiola and the late Johan Cruyff.
But what's truly unusual about the film is the way it celebrates the city's layout, built in the mid-19th century by urban planner Ildefons Cerdà , using a grid visual style.
It was also made with the help of many natives of Barcelona. There are 20 real-life fans playing extras in the film including 78-year-old Carles Tarrida; the music is an original score performed for the film by traditional Catalan percussionists Kaboom and features Barcelona native and Latino Grammy nominee RosalÃa; the voiceover is by actor Carles Francino, born in the city, and other famous Catalans appear in the spot, including skateboarder Pedro Attenborough and BMX rider Malcom de Blas.
