'Bill and Ted' stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter go on a new adventure for Porsche
Content campaign from the auto brand is latest to tap into pop culture archives
Editor's Pick
Pop culture nostalgia continues to be all the rage in advertising; we recently saw a return to "Wayne's World" from Uber Eats and Cadillac revisited "Edward Scissorhands" during the Super Bowl, while Alan Ruck, Cameron from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," recently reprised his role in an ad for LiftMaster.
Porsche is the latest brand to resurrect a famous pairing by reuniting Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, aka Bill and Ted, behind the wheel of its Taycan electric vehicle.
A new longform film aims to promote the features of the electric sports car. It takes Reeves and Winter on a journey through California to the Porsche Experience Center, during which the two speed down closed roads, test out the electric battery on a hill climb and play on a drift circle. Throughout, they comment frequently on how the car doesn't seem to be running out of charge.
While the actors appear as themselves rather than the characters they made famous (and who recently appeared in a new film), they bring some of their original "Bill and Ted"-style excitement to the film, which is designed to answer consumers' questions about electric vehicles' charge and range in a fun and atypical way.
