Burger King Brazil will ‘buy your vote’ with fries and onion rings

If all else fails, maybe just flat-out bribe people to vote? That’s essentially what Burger King and David São Paulo did ahead of this past Sunday’s elections in Brazil, offering free fries and onion rings to people who could show proof of voting. Also read: Today’s roundup of creative campaigns catching our attention A film began airing on TV on Oct. 2, ahead of Election Day on Sunday, Oct. 6, encouraging people to vote and introducing the BK offer. It was supported by out-of-home ads and in-store activations at around 700 stores nationwide. Voters could redeem their free grub on Monday, Oct. 7, by presenting their voting receipt at the counter. “This is a fun and irreverent campaign that reinforces the social role of BK, which often goes unnoticed due to our humor-driven brand profile,” said Igor Puga, marketing vice president at Zamp, the master franchisee of Burger King and Popeyes in Brazil. “The goal was to engage consumers on one of today’s most important topics—voting—while also encouraging reflection and citizenship among all our customers.” BK Brazil has done election campaigns before, including “Blank Whopper” in 2018 and “Burger King Elections” in 2022.
