Earlier this year, Icelandair set up Stopver Buddies, a service that set you up with an Icelandair employee if you had a layover in Iceland for them to host you and show you some sights. Now the airline has extended the innovative service to make your Stopover in Iceland even more exciting by offering you a special celebration package in the country.

The airline and agency The Brooklyn Brothers, working with Islenska, are offering Celebration Stopover Buddies -- so that on a transatlantic stopover, all passengers can request a free Buddy and are matched according to their celebration request, however big or small. Their Icelandair "buddy" will be on hand to act as a host in Iceland and offer their personalised local expertise to make the day even more memorable.

One of the first events, seen here, was an underwater marriage proposal, as seen in this video, between U.S. couple Jen and Matt who often travel transatlantically due to him working frequently in Europe. Icelandair helped set up the surprise proposal, which took place at the meeting of two tectonic plates, even flying over the groom's family to help celebrate.

Icelandair's Celebration Stopover Buddies are available for any Icelandair transatlantic passengers, and can be requested from now until March 31, 2017 by visiting the website. Not all will be granted, but for those who do, the service is free.
