Comcast Winter Olympics ad stars an inspiring Paralympian business owner

Spot by Goodby Silverstein & Partners shows how Mike Schultz recovered from injury and built his own prosthetics business

In the first of several TV ads that it will run during coverage the forthcoming Winter Olympics, Comcast Business focuses on the inspiring story of Paralympian gold medalist and business owner Mike Schultz. 

The spot, created by Goodby Silverstein & Partners tells the story in visual flashbacks and present-day footage. Amid a successful snowmobiling career, Schultz was involved in a crash in 2008 that led to the amputation of his left leg below the knee. Schultz designed and built his own prosthetic leg from scratch, not only getting himself back into competition, but also eventually transforming the high-tech idea into a successful business. Today more than 20 Paralympians have used Schultz’s prosthetics to compete in the Paralympics and he himself has won a gold medal in snowboarding.

"This spot isn’t just about Mike’s journey as an athlete or his path to becoming a business owner, both of which are extremely powerful," said Eileen Diskin, chief marketing officer and SVP, Comcast Business. "It’s about resilience and adaptability. This story, like the stories of so many businesses that are finding a way forward, is a reminder of why we do the work we do.”

Comcast plans to run a series of spots during the Olympics centered on the theme of "being ready for what’s next." Others will showcase businesses across the country taking on a busy winter during the Olympics as well as personal stories of business owners.

NBCUniversal, which is owned by Comcast, is the official broadcaster of this year's Winter Olympics.
