In a new campaign for American Family Insurance, Jennifer Hudson ("Dreamgirls") surprises aspiring musicians and duets with them, to promote the messsage that any dream is possible with the right support.
In a TV spot, by BBDO New York, Hudson appears as street musician Alex Guthrie is performing in Atlanta, and launches into a duet with him to Bill Withers' "Lovely Day." Guthrie knew he was taking part in a film for American Family Insurance but not that Hudson would be appearing -- and is duly amazed. By the end of the song, the whole crowd is joining in.
The spot, directed by Henry-Alex Rubin at Smuggler, continues the insurer's "Insure Carefully. Dream Fearlessly" campaign. This is Hudson's second appearance for the brand; she appeared in its 2015 Super Bowl commercial.
In a second online film, created by Elite Media, Hudson surprises members of the Morehouse College Glee Club as they record a promo for their spring tour.
