ESPN acknowledges everything fans have ignored to watch college football
McKinney presents an homage to sacrifices made in the lead up to the championship game
Editor's Pick
An obsession can be identified not by the repetition of a single activity but by the number of other activities it hedges out. By that metric, there are millions of people obsessed with college football. For them, Monday night’s 2019 National Championship Game is a well-earned showdown between two dominant teams. For their long-suffering companions, it’s the welcome end of the season.
ESPN’s “Everything Matters” campaign culminates with a final spot before the game between the University of Alabama’s Crimson Tide and the Clemson Tigers. The 30-second ad from McKinney features clips of games throughout the season interspersed with the events and people fans missed out on so they wouldn’t miss their favorite teams in action.
Chores, phone calls, dinners, relationships all fell to the wayside. Losses led to anger and frustration, while success followed from fervent prayers and lucky rituals. The spot, directed by The Hudson Dusters via Greenpoint Pictures, is fittingly backed by “I Put a Spell on You.”
