ESPN and director Peter Berg unleash a stampede of college football fans to usher in the playoff
McKinney debuts blockbuster spot ahead of the games

College football fans from all walks of life and representing teams from around the country storm the football field in ESPN’s blockbuster spot, directed by Peter Berg (“Friday Night Lights,” “Lone Survivor,” “Patriot’s Day”) and created out of McKinney.
The colorful film captures fans’ intense passion for the game, featuring 189 principals, 225 extras and 23 college programs. It opens on the backs of players from 2019 National Champs Clemson as they charge onto the field, surrounded by a host of mascots and football supporters, including Notre Dame’s Fighting Irish Leprechaun, LSU’s Mike the Tiger, Syracuse’s Otto the Orange, USC’s Song Girls, University of Alabama Crimson Tide’s Big Al, University of Washington’s Harry the Husky and more. The fans run, cheer, flip and bounce with ferocity, giving viewers a taste of the raging rivalry to come.
“We needed this to feel epic,” said ESPN SVP Marketing Laura Gentile in a statement. “Peter was able to capture the pageantry and the energy the fans will bring to the game.”
The aim is to illustrate how college football is as much about its supporters as it is about the sport itself. “This season it’s gonna take all of us. Who’s in?” the final copy reads, continuing the playoff's long-running tag.
The campaign, produced out of Berg's commercial production company Film 47, will run across ESPN and ABC throughout college football season. More spots will roll out in the coming weeks.
