Festive celebrations go extreme as Argos says 'baubles' to 2020
Humorous ad puts two fingers up to the disappointment of last year
Editor's Pick
People go to extremes with their festive behavior in this year's holiday ad from Argos, another U.K. retailer putting the disappointing 2020 Christmas behind it and embracing over-the-top fun again.
"This Christmas it's going to be a big one," declares the opening voiceover as people turn up volume dials and get ready to party. From an office worker emblazoned in over-the-top holiday decorations to a woman blow-torching her Christmas pudding, everything is big and brazen.
One scene even seems like a blatant two fingers to the pandemic rules of last Christmas, depicting a man who turns up at his grandmother's house with the entire street. There are also exploding heads and gifs of people's over-excited reactions to receiving their Argos gifts. To underline it all, the spot ends with the words (writ large in Christmas lights) "Baubles to last year. Christmas is on!"
The 60-second TV ad was created by The&Partnership and directed by Réalité via Canada. It's also running across out-of-home and digital channels.
“One thing we know for sure is we all deserve a proper Christmas this yearr," said Yan Elliot, global executive creative director at The&Partnership in a statement. "As always, Argos is primed and ready to deliver it wherever you are, up or down the country. So let’s get together, go big, and say 'Baubles' to last year.”
