Last month, Geico teased the return of its caveman character, a 20-year-old mascot who had not been seen in the insurer’s advertising since at least 2018.

This weekend, Chevy Chase, Maryland-based Geico will reveal more of the character in a two-minute spot that will air during NBC’s Saturday Night Football streaming on Peacock.

In the longform video, titled “Commerical Cuddles,” the caveman is watching football on TV with his wife Tina when he sees a trailer for a new Geico documentary—a film in which he was asked to participate. Yet the documentary, “Legend of the Lizard,” is not about telling his “truth,” as he and Tina expected. Instead, it is focused on his chief rival, the Geico gecko, much to the couple’s dismay.

The new ad, created with Geico’s longtime agency the Martin Agency, continues to promote the inter-mascot rivalry ahead of Geico’s 15-minute documentary, which will detail the rise to marketing fame of the gecko and include interviews with his best friend, high school basketball coach and co-workers. That film will air ahead of the Super Bowl next month.

Geico plans to feature both its lizard and Neanderthal on social media channels such as Instagram and TikTok in the coming weeks ahead of the documentary.
