Pedigree demonstrates not only that dogs have a calming effect on their owners, but that it works the other way around too, in this fascinating experiment from Australia.
Agency Clemenger BBDO collaborated with canine welfare scientist Mia Cobb and human performance specialist Dr. Craig Duncan on the project, which involved three dog owners and their pets together. Heart monitors were placed on both animals and owners and they were then separated. When they were reunited, their heartbeats and anxiety levels dropped dramatically -- then, their heart rhythms actually aligned.
Dr. Duncan professed himself astonished by the result: "I would have never thought that the configuration of the heartbeats would be in sync as much as they were," he said in a statement.
The film of the experiment, seen here, contains some emotive backstories to the owners and their relationship with their pets. Pedigree will donate one Australian dollar to PetRescue for every time it's shared on Facebook using the hashtag #HeartsAligned.
