Ikea creates a kitchen ballet around a couple's leftovers meal
Spot by Rethink Canada highlights sustainable kitchen solutions
Editor's Pick
During the pandemic, audiences were wowed by footage of ballet stars practicing during lockdown in their apartments and tiny spaces. A new spot from Ikea in Canada seems inspired by the idea, as it shows a couple turning their meal preparation into a balletic performance.
The ad shows the pair makeing dinner out of leftovers as they perform a series of graceful moves to Bizet's "Carmen." It highlights Ikea's sustainable kitchen solutions, including storage jars, a kitchen cabinet made of recycled materials, a hot water faucet and more. The tagline is "less wasteful, more graceful."
The spot was directed by Mark Zibert at Scout's Honour for Rethink Canada. The agency tapped Cirque du Soleil choreographer Lydia Bouchard to work with two professional dancers, Véronique Giasson and Rahmane Belkebiche, and the spot was shot on a full kitchen and living room set within a convention center to aid social distancing.
This isn't the first time we've seen performances around home hardware. Previously, Moen created a "Faucet Dance" to show off the features of one of its kitchen spouts.
