Best of 2014 #2 Interactive/Integrated/Social: The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Through this week, we continue our countdown of the best work of the year in TV/Film, Print/Outdoor/Design and Interactive (IX)/Integrated/Social. See all the Best of 2014 so far here. At #2 in Interactive/Integrated/Social, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge illustrated how creative firepower--whether it be industry-related or not, can lead to signficant social good. Over the last year, social media films of people dousing themselves with icewater, starring everyone from your grandpa to Bill Gates to agency creatives (see above) to the Pillsbury Doughboy to Old Spice's Man Your Man Could Smell Like demonstrated how social media can help mobilize society for a greater cause, fighting Lou Gehrig's disease. The creative firepower of agency creatives sure makes for some entertaining ALS Ice Bucket Challenge responses, as evident in this over-the-top video from RPA ECD/Sr. VP Jason Sperling. He takes the drenching to the next level with this slick "Flashdance" parody, showing off a Gumby-like flexibility as he writhes his hips. "I realize we've hit saturation point, so I spiced it up," he said in his Facebook post. In the video, he marks Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg, David and Goliath Chairman David Angelo and Pitch CCO Xanthe Wells to get wet next. On the other side of the country in New York, former JWT North America CCO Jeff Benjamin and President/Chief Integration Officer Mike Geiger recently took a "cold shower" too.
