Melissa McCarthy just wants to travel—she doesn’t care where—in Zulu Alpha Kilo New York’s colorful, musical spot for Booking.com, unveiled Monday.
The actress and comedian is seen in an impressive number of locales in 30 seconds—oceanside, poolside, fireside, slopeside, cactus-side—as she sings about her excursions. She’s also outfitted appropriately for each destination, including, most memorably, sporting a beard as a lumberjack in a visit to the backwoods. The spot also includes a cameo by McCarthy’s husband, Ben Falcone.
The :30, which ends with the Booking.yeah URL, will run during Sunday’s game. A two-minute extended version is expected soon, and Booking.com also posted more teasers to its YouTube on Monday. This is the first work produced by Canadian agency Zulu Alpha Kilo's New York office. Mindshare handled the media.
Coming out of Covid, it took a while for Americans to be comfortable with traveling again. But Booking.com says 73 percent of U.S. travelers feel optimistic about taking a trip this year.
"The joy and excitement we get from traveling and exploring the world, or even taking a short trip close to home, gives us such wonderful memories,” McCarthy said in a statement. “Every time my family travels, we come back as a little bit better versions of ourselves and we're immediately inspired to start daydreaming about our next trip.”
“This year’s Booking.yeah campaign aims to showcase that Booking.com is the most reliable platform to book a trip, no matter where travelers want to go, with features including instantly bookable vacation rentals, free cancellation on most bookings, verified reviews, great deals and more,” said Arjan Dijk, chief marketing officer at Booking.com. “The incomparably talented Melissa McCarthy truly helped bring the creative to life with the message that we hope will resonate with Americans—the best way to book your stay in the U.S. is through Booking.com—and we couldn't think of a better time to kick off the campaign than the Big Game.”
To kick off the campaign, Booking.com will use social media to give away half a million dollars in vacation funds—50 winners will receive $10,000 each in travel credits.
