Morgan Freeman stars in Turkish Airlines' Super Bowl spot

Turkish Airlines is returning to the Super Bowl with a familiar spokesman, actor Morgan Freeman, who appeared in an ad for the airline company in 2017. In this year’s ad, titled “Pangea” and released Feb. 10, Freeman likens the airline to a force of nature keeping the earth connected as if it were one continent. Centred around the concept of "Pangea," the supercontinent that existed millions of years ago, the ad shows continents moving together into each other, symoblizing the resumption of travel and a more connected world after the pandemic. “We connect more countries than any other airline,” reads a sentence at the end of the spot. The ad was created via Amsterdam creative production company Whale, leading an Amsterdam-based team including director Kenn MacRae, edit company Splash Studios, VFX shop Glassworks and music company MassiveMusic. "We are glad to work with such a talented star, Morgan Freeman, for the second time in line with the Pangea campaign," said Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat, in a statement. “After months of creative ideation and production, we’re incredibly proud to share this campaign with the world during the most watched sporting event on the globalcalendar. Travellers are increasingly hopeful and enthusiastic to safely explore new destinations or reunite with loved ones, and as a leading airline, we hope to spark inspiration and instil confidence as we strive to reconnect the world.” "We wanted to visualise a concept that’s so big it’s almost unbelievable,” added Whale’s founder and executive producer, Ezra Xenoss, in a statement. “That meant using a real variety of VFX techniques to create epic, massive movements, while making sure the concept didn’t appear destructive or ominous. It’s testament to the team, both the many talented craftspeople who touched the spot, and our partners at Turkish Airlines, that we could achieve what we did on this scale." The spot will feature in the first half, second quarter of the Super Bowl. This is Turkish Airlines’ sixth ad to feature at the Super Bowl.
