Pedigree tells the touching true story of a wounded veteran and his dog in this mini documentary created by BBDO New York.
Part of the Mars Petcare brand's "Feed the Good"-themed campaign, which explores how "dogs bring out the good in people, and Pedigree brings out the good in dogs," the film centers on a Marine, Dan Lasko, who suffered from PTSD after his leg was amputated as a result of injuries on deployment.
Wally, his faithful service dog, helped him through PTSD and let him rebuild his life, which has included taking part in marathons and triathlons, and becoming a father. The film ends by showing how he "paid it forward" by adopting Maggie, a rescue dog.
Directed by Nathan Caswell and Jeremiah Zagar via Public Record, the film succeeds in being more than just another "inspirational" docu-style ad by digging deeper into the story of the pair via affecting interviews with Lt. Lasko and his wife. It'll really make you really think about the value an animal can bring.
Previously, the brand, along with Almap BBDO depicted how dogs helped former prisoners integrate back into civilian life in another touching film.
